Webinar Description:
The course is designed to address infections in wounds, specifically chronic wounds. The infection continuum will be reviewed, along with how infection control is not just limited to a topical dressing and systemic agent. It will address the following:

Recognizing the reducing skin surface bacteria is key to keeping bacteria out of wounds, early recognition of infections in chronic wounds, and biofilms, how to choose an appropriate cleansing agent and topical dressing, how cleansing the peri wound and wound bed is instrumental in keeping bacteria out of the wounds, how utilizing prior cultures, local infection control information regarding antibiotics, and proper antibiotic therapy can help reduce C-diff and aide in the healing rates of wounds which are infected. Also, we will discuss making sure the patient’s surrounding environment is cleaned frequently to prevent the re-infection of a wound from the patient’s own contact areas. We will also discuss nasal swabbing and treating the nares for MRSA related infections.

Target Audience: Nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals interested in wound care.

About the Speaker:
Tracy has been practicing wound care for the last 30 years.  Tracy has practiced as a wound nurse in the acute care setting, long-term and assisted living, outpatient, and home care setting.  Tracy owned and operated a very successful outpatient wound clinic.  She is a board certified Legal Nurse Consultant and sits as an expert witness in wound care, long term care, skilled nursing facilities, etc.  Tracy has been teaching wound care and legal documentation courses for the last 15 years.  Tracy is a WCC and DWC.
