This session will demonstrate best practices in drainage containment, negative pressure wound therapy, skin management to reduce discomfort, and pouching to heal the wound and keep the patient clean, dry, and comfortable during this waiting period. Massive soft tissue injury also can be challenging, painful and frustrating for the patient and provider. This session will provide techniques and tips for your most difficult wound situations, such as necrotizing fasciitis and utilizing the newest negative pressure therapy.
About the Speaker:
Maryanne and her team have established the Complex Abdominal Reconstruction Service (CARS) at Regions Hospital. The CARS team has developed novel and structured approaches for managing complex abdominal wounds and enteric fistulae. The CARS team focuses on the best possible patient outcomes and a good quality of life on the “journey to surgical repair”. The CARS team currently services over two hundred patients with all aspects of patient care; nutrition, conditioning, surgery and wound care.
