Webinar Description:
Chronic foot ulcers in patients with diabetes cause substantial and morbidity and may lead to amputation of a lower extremity. These wounds can develop in 10-25% of our patients with diabetes. Accurate identification of underslying causes, such as type of neuropathy, deformity, and trauma along with the various co-morbidities are essential for planning the treatment approach for optimal healing. This presentation will provide an evidence-ased approach for identification of chronic neuropathic, neuroischemic, and ischemic diabetic food ulcerations (DFU). This intermediate session will also review the various therapetic options such as off-loading, debirdement, dressing selection, and the various adjunctive therapies available to use on these difficult wounds to heal.
 

About the Speaker:
Dr. Wollheim is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.  He has 25+ years of experience in general/vascular surgery and wound care, as well as extensive experience in medical-legal consulting and teaching college advance science courses.  His teaching style includes emphasizing the fundamental concepts of wound care, incorporating additional visual aids, and utilizing clinical scenarios during his presentations.  He is a WCEI instructor and is also on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Wound Care Advisor and Wound Central® electronic journals.
