This presentation will discuss the importance of pre-operative stoma site marking for the individual with planned or emergent* ostomy surgery to help enhance the health related quality of life (HRQOL) for patients with an ostomy by decreasing the potential of a poorly sited stoma. This, in turn, decreases the potential for peristomal skin complications and related issues.

- Define an "ostomy" and describe 2 medical conditions that may lead to surgical creating of an ostomy.

- Outline the steps of stoma site marking
- State at least 2 complications that can occur related to lack of stoma siting

This learning opportunity will review the underlying pathophysiology of chronic venous leg ulcers and the attributes of those ulcers. Current best evidence will be presented to update the attendee’s knowledge regarding management of lower extremity venous disease, and venous leg ulcers.

- Recall at least three attributes of venous leg ulcers.
- Identify at least three management options to promote healing of venous leg ulcers.
