Moisture Associated Skin Damage: Prevention is Key to Protecting Peristomal Skin Health
(Free Webinar) Sponsored by Convatec
Speaker: Becky Strilko, RN, BSN, CWOCN, APRN-FPA, OMS, WCC
Contact Hour(s): 1.0
Target Audience: Nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals interested in wound care.
Description:
Healthy peristomal skin should be intact with no signs of redness, warmth, itching or pain. Poor skin health surrounding the stoma like Peristomal Moisture Associated Skin Damage (PMASD) can lead to leakage, odor, pain, discomfort, additional healthcare costs and decreased health related quality of life post ostomy surgery. Unfortunately, most people with ostomies can experience peristomal skin complications at some point in their lives. The good news is that there is plenty of actions that can be taken to keep the peristomal skin healthy and avoid these problems.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the clinical presentation of PMASD from other peristomal skin complications.
- Identify common causes of PMASD
- Construct different prevention and treatment options for PMASD
