Myra Varnado, BS RN CWON CFCN  

Myra has been a Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse for 24 years, having graduated from Emory University’s WOC Nursing Education Program. She lives in the New Orleans area and provides consultation of a variety of Wound and Ostomy concerns. 

She provides Wound and Ostomy clinical consultation for patients, facilities, and agencies across the U.S. and develops Wound and Ostomy Telemedicine clinical models utilizing a variety of technologies. She also provides wound and ostomy education programs for health care providers in a variety of settings both nationally and internationally.  

Myra also has extensive clinical and teaching experience with patients in a formal Diabetes Foot and Wound program at LSU Health managing patients who have diabetic / neuropathic foot wounds and at risk for lower extremity amputation. She has also designed and implemented a variety of DFU Prevention and Management programs that have been replicated across the U.S. 

She has been a member of the WOCN Society Wound Guidelines Task Force for the past 22 years. The Task Force writes evidence-based guidelines for the management of a variety of wound types. Myra is also the primary author of the Neuropathic and Diabetic Foot Guideline since 2004 and authors the same topic as a book chapter for the WOCN Core Curriculum for Wound Management.
