Purpose/goal:
To help the acute care/bedside nurse identify patients at risk for pressure on admission, reassess throughout the hospitalization, apply new knowledge of prevention measure beyond just support surfaces and to prevent pressure injury development.

Target Audience: Nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals interested in wound care. At the completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify patients at risk on admission.
  • Accurately complete the Braden scale to appropriately affect intervention.
  • Identify when patients need to have the Braden scale recalculated during their stay.
  • Accurately select offloading surfaces based on risk and or wound.
  • Identify overhead repositioning measure as well as other interventions as appropriate.
